DJ ADHD, Nikki Nair - Rips
Nikki Nair has been plugging away into the music scene since 2018 and has had a ridiculous number of releases for a short time. Arriving late to the party is never fun, especially because it meant I missed out on the insanity that is Rips (2022), Released on Pretty Weird Records by Nikki Nair and DJ ADHD. Both US-born producers, it's easy to see the influences from the homeland as this release is a pure US club scene bought to the masses.
'Startrack' is a no-holds-bar acidic weapon that will blast out your speaker cones from beginning to end. Gritty repeating offbeat laser beams 303's that build tension as we climb higher and higher, only to crescendo into dirty fast-paced Electro beat. Nikki Nair delivers a myriad of builds and drops that blow the mind all the way through. Accent that with cocking guns and sirens straight out of the 90s rave scene. What more could you want from modern Electro, maybe some cowbell? It's got that. The skippy funk from Nikki Nair's production doesn't invite you to Jack. It tells you.
The title track 'Rips' by Nikki Nair and DJ ADHD, offers the other side of modern club culture. Smashing distorted kick drums rule the low end, flanked by a plethora of percussion and shouts that, when combined, we'll put you straight in the club, Ghettotech at its finest. The rapid percussion is a surefire way to get hands in the air. The pair keep this authentically underground with growling bases introduced in a call and response with the shouts of "UGH!"
