DMX Krew - Space Is Inside EP

EP

The Spaces Is Inside EP (2025) is a fresh take on an old-school sound. DMX Krew combines solid, analogue synthesis with clean, modern mixing. The six-track EP captures that distinct '90s electro sound through recognisable classic drum machines with that perfect swing, you'd swear, popping was still a thing. For me, it's the no fucks given attitude that is forced down your neck with every breakdown and delay tail and acts as a perfect juxtaposition against the astral in spacey sound choices.

DMX Krew blows this one out of the park, joining Altered Circuits out of Brussels. What makes the record so palatable is its to-the-point nature. DMX Krew doesn't faff around with ridiculous modern sound design that sounds like a predator mix with a dinosaur ripping apart a watermelon. This guy is about the simple things in life when it comes to design. Some old but gold subtractive synthesis that becomes wildly more exciting through a less-is-more approach. Quality synths deliver rich, thick, and lush sounds, making it more approachable, while superb melody writing adds sci-fi interest.

The records flirt with future funk on 'Vicious Windows', and flex his effortless cool on an Afrika Bambaataa-inspired hip-hop track, 'Bass Box', which is, in particular, a favourite of mine. There's a detour into a conscious club music where soft, velvety chords complement thick, pulsating basses on 'Warm Places' and a much more glitched-out effort with 'Space Is Inside'. DMX hits some big electro milestones already, but it's all before we're thrown back into the deep end with 'Mental Disturbance' and 'Tunnel Beneath Precinct 11', both of which have an aggressive, hyperdigital edge that comes across like a broken-down supercomputer newly discovered after being buried thousands of years ago, with a retro-futuristic style.
