Edward - Deep Sea Villain
Edward's move from his more atmospheric house days hasn't left fans wanting. While his style is more active and dance floor-focused, the surrealist undercurrent remains. Vivid house beats accented with oddball ambience throughout while his creepy yet mystifying use of synths shines through, especially on Edwards's remix of Trybet's 'Mood Setter'. Edward exercises a rougher, more vintage sound on the EP's opener 'Siunto'. Dusty drums and hypnotic melodies act as a backdrop to something wholly otherworldly. Tension builds through a continually shifty sound palette of strange squelches and bass designed to keep audiences guessing. Things get more methodical on 'Dr Octo' as Edwards's classically deep ambience returns adjacent to slick garage grooves and contemporary glitches. Deep Sea Villain is one for the deeper nights and a solid addition to the catalogues of both Edward and the Oyster Cult.
