Extrawelt - Riverrun / Midi Waters
Arne Schaffhausen and Wayan Raabe's Extrawelt have been rumbling the clubs with the extraordinary blend of minimal techno and Electro for the past two decades. The immaculate production of labels like Cocoon Recordings, Traum Schallplatten, and, more recently, Feel My Bicep has cemented them as one of the biggest acts in the underground. For the second release of 2024, the duo delivers two super-saturated Electro house cuts that bring both energy and mood. They make up for what each cut might lack in power or excitement in Screeching atmospheres and rugged rolling bass.
For those familiar with Extrawelt's catalogue, this latest release offers something new and exciting. The tracks are characterised by a more distorted and moody sound, which is a refreshing addition. 'Riverrun' is lively, enhanced by a synthesiser gliding aggressively between notes. Extrawelt injects a sense of fun into the track with cowbell and snare rolls that prevent things from getting too melancholy.
'MIDI Waters' takes a different approach, embracing darker tones, especially in its bassline. Extrawelt seizes the opportunity to create a dismal environment, drawing the listener in with screeching, saturated atmospheres. What sets Extrawelt apart in both tracks is their ability to maintain a sense of balance. 'Riverrun' is a vibrant and energetic track, but its atmosphere keeps it grounded. 'Midi Waters' follows a similar path, finding its equilibrium in a pulsating bassline that holds your attention amidst the onslaught of harsh texture and eerie melodic lines.
