Marco Shuttle - MSP03
To me, Marco Shuttle is an interesting entity in the dance music scene. Unashamedly gritty, deep, and hypnotic, the Berliner has carved out an unmistakable niche in Europe's darkest, deepest dungeons. The unmistakable sound of booming kick drums and esoteric, dark synthesisers clangs and cascades through huge warehouses and small clubs alike. The unmistakable sound of Shuttle has graced labels such as Incienso, Spazio Disponibile, Eerie, Time to Express, and this time his latest work comes to us as a self-release under the Marco Shuttle Productions label.
MSP03 (2026) is definitely a precise 2-tracker that combines jagged bass waves with lucid-like synthesisers that perpetually force you further down into an unconscious sway. The A-side's 'Meteora' rivets his feet to the floor, as tight kicks and fizzing hats create a bedrock on which to move. The deceptively simple bass rhythm grates across the body like sandpaper and allows the more acid-leaning melodies to fracture your consciousness, leaving gulfs into which the ethereal pads seep. There's an undeniability to Marco on this one, as though resistance to the groove is impossible. The follow-up's 'Rhythm Plus' retracts most of the more boisterous elements. Shuttle creates a true stepper with tighter kicks and a subtle rolling bass frequency, delivered through gentle stabs that use delay and reverb to stretch them, gliding between them. The minimalism of the whole experience is compounded when a new countermelody is introduced, sounding both hollow and thick with nasty intent. The addition of collapse furthers this steppable, danceable style, while the record's depth and flow are never at stake as it slowly transforms each sound through resonant peaks and filtered lows.
Market Shuttle shows immensely calculated, focused music-making on this latest release. It's a testament to his experience and undeniable ability to straddle rhythms. MSP03 is a short, shattering mind on the dance floor, and it's a holistic approach to deep techno.
