Myk Derill - Hard Smoke

EP

Myk Derill’s dulcet dub techno transforms with new energy levels as he returns to the fantastic Knotweed Records. Derill’s style floats effortlessly between genres, with him sighting influences as varied as hip-hop and punk, to name a few. Myk Derill kicks off Hard Smoke (2024) with the hazy sub-heavy dub-techno number of the same name. The constant bass pressure mixes perfectly with the aquatic melodics, creating a sinking sensation while looking up to see the glimmer of the surface. The ‘Double Mirage Mix’ takes less of a surreal approach, opting for heavy sub-rumbles and wickedly slashing stabs. The earth-quacking and booty-shacking ‘Double Mirage Mix’ brings a new level of groove to the title track that flows right into the EP’s closer ‘Sick Light’. It’s a ripping Detriot weapon. The serious atonal machine funk the genre is known for gets some Derill magic. He goes to town with effects, taking the track through subsided lows and explosive highs. The Hard Smoke EP offers three for the price of one. Three separate tracks, three separate moods, and three parties, all courtesy of Myk Derill.
