Quimbie - Sunday Fiction Remixes Pt. 2
Quinbie returns with the second part of the Sunday Fiction Remixes. This time sees Lawrence and Carsten Jost’s take on two tracks off the album. Both artists put on a deep astral Tech house masterclass with drum grooves and baselines feeling adequately extraterrestrial. Both tracks anchor to Terra Firma with some beautifully sampled human elements that ride the wave perfectly. Lawrence’s rendition of ‘What to Put on a Record’ explores the relationship between future tech and the analogue past. Orchestral tape loops provide a joyful feeling under which the roof and ready high-tech joint plays. Lawrence’s interpretation contrasts perfectly with Carsten Jost’s as he reflects on the differences between technology over time.
In contrast, Jost looks to explore the differences between Earth and aliens. Carson’s production of his interpretation of ‘Loveletters.pdf’ does away with these standard drum kits, exploring more synthetic percussion. He embodies the term tech house, as the grooves and rhythms have a classic deep house edge while the sound palette is alien and futuristic. Introducing female vocals augmented with a subtle specificity to cement them in the uncanny valley is a great artistic choice, driving home the themes of distance. These are two solid productions that elevate the original works quite nicely, and it’s something you’d want to hear while enjoying the rooftop party. You can find the full Sunday fiction remixes (Pt. 1 & 2) as a digital download on the Janx records Bandcamp with Sunday Fiction and Dino remixed by Bielefeld Murder Boys and Ubahnrider, which is available now.
