Thys, Nikki Nair, Kelbin - Cheese Interface
The Trio of Thys, Nikki Nair, and Kelbin released Cheese Interface (2025), one of the year's most expansive club music experiences. This feat was no easy feat, considering it was only released in February. The hyperactive club weapon comes to us via Copenhagen's absorb emit imprint, melding the esoteric with some insane wobbles.
The title track, 'Cheese Interface' boots the record off with something special. Heavy kicks keep under a surprisingly upbeat atmosphere before slapping the audience in the face with a drop out of a Salvador Dalí fever dream. The central motif sees the kicks slowly increase into a gallop until they're nothing more than a buzzing mess. Fuzzy synths and a steady clap and hat pattern keep the tempo while the kicks fly off the handle again and again. With every drop, the track ventures more into the realms of the weird, making this a guaranteed dance floor favourite.
On the flip side, the trio ventures to far-off worlds for the follow-up, 'The Wasp', as heavy-set bass barrages the subwoofers. The combination of electro and garage elements sees intricate hi-hat grooves together with the pseudo seriousness that is more reminiscent of sci-fi satire. Thick guttural pulses that don't let up, slowly changing in intensity as the track progresses. Weighty kicks cross the threshold into synth territory and sound more like the rifles in Starship Troopers or Star Wars than anything else.
Cheese Interface is guerrilla warfare. It hits hard, and before you know it, it's gone. It's one of those records where it's almost comical how aggressively abstract and hard-hitting it is. It feels almost like the trio said, "F**k it, let's really give people something to talk about." Check this out if you're in the market for something that will melt faces and leave the club reeling for a break!
