82J6 - Geschlossen
If you're looking for a tech-house release with a little more under the hood, 82J6 has you covered. Patrick Keuthen, or 82J6, has been done by a few different aliases, including Laaud and Percy, before even mentioning the slew of groups Keuthen has been in. The latest release from the German, Geschlossen (2024), incorporates a spicy mix of euphoric sample repetition and filters, leaving a surprisingly French taste in the mouth.
82J6 keeps things rolling with an exciting assortment of elements. The soft, siren-like whirring takes over Geschlossen and plays within the kick pattern to give the track a lot more swing. The real sauce of the record can be found in the background elements. They sit barely audible on the Maison Mix, adding subtle shots of depth and rhythm. 82J6 shows a fantastic presence of mind when adding these little flourishes and breakdowns, keeping flowing.
While the Maison Mix channels more of its French house roots, the Dub differentiates itself by bringing those subtle rhythms to the forefront. In some ways, this makes a more impactful track. The Dub feels more psychedelic because it's more percussive and synth-driven, relying less on the heaving kick to start the party. The spoken word becomes more prominent, like the constant voice in your head. Whichever you decide to belt out, be prepared for a euphoric dance floor killer with enough to make the snobs to the back pay attention.
