Desire - Darkside

Desire announced their third studio album, Games People Play, to be released on Italians Do It Better later this year. With this announcement came the first single off the record, Darkside, a melancholic 80s throwback that serenades us with lush synthesises and cinematic vocals from Megan Louise.

It's a synthy power ballad drenched in neon. Think Vice City taken to the year 2280. Layers of saw waves and arpeggiators flip the track from the first note, creating a more expensive sound than most contemporary music can offer. The track filters into the verse as a minimalistic 808 drumbeat courtesy of Johnny Jewel, keeping the track driving. A colossal release of tension hits as the chorus starts, and the sound of soulful synth leads, wailing with passion you think is impossible for a machine to create. The vocals from Desire elevate the music, commenting on the daydream state she's trapped in. Megan Louise emulates the ghost in the sell inherent to analogue gear with her vocal delivery that always hints at powerful emotions lying under the surface. Games People Play by Desire hits on Italians Do It Better later this year.
