Batu - Zeal / Sunday

The latest two trackers from Batu touch down on his newest label, A Long Strange Dream. Zeal / Sunday (2024), the Bristol-based badman's two-track heaters see Batu at his best. Both tracks have a laser focus on the dance floor with punchy percussion, a wicked baseline, and an ass load of funk. This release looks to be another underground hit. 'Zeal' will rip up dance floors. It's 4x4 but full of offbeats that don't let your feet sit still, but it's in the baseline where it really shines. It's aggressive, super heavy, and about as menacing as Leatherface chasing you down a Texas highway.

On the other side, 'Sunday' is a much funkier number, taking inspiration from the UK's love affair with the funky house scene from a few years ago. Batu crams so much into this track that you wonder if he produces on a Pogo stick. The inclusion of some more contemporary arpeggiators not only adds layers to the track but also creates a level of atmosphere that is more reminiscent of deep techno tunes rather than something this funky. It's another home run for Batu. As only the 5th release on his A Long Strange Dream imprint, this is just the beginning. Keep tuned for a lot more, as Batu's future releases will keep you on your toes and your feet moving.
