Benjamin Damage - Nix Narcissus
The Persian-based DJ and produced Anetha has been pumping out heart-stopping sets on platforms like Resident Advisor and HÖR for what seems like forever. She's become synonymous with big parties touring internationally. Yet, seemingly not content with this, she launched her label, Mama Told Ya, in 2019. The newest musical venture spearheaded by Athena is a new imprint under the name Fané.e. Fané.e promises to be a "digital experimental ephemeral", maybe hinting at a one-off release that subverts an artist's usual style.
The first release on the Fané.e imprint comes to us from Benjamin Damage and is called Nix Narcissus (2023). It's uplifting techno from an artist well-versed in the emotional side of the genre. The twist is that it delves further into trance than his usual output. 'Need U' is the more feel-good of the two. Its plucky synthesisers chug along, phasing in and out like an Italo bassline. The vocals bring the track to life, adding a human element to the supremely transcendent track. 'U Dream' won't be forgotten anytime soon. In your face, kickdrums, snappy breakbeats, and catchy melodies make this an earworm in the best sense of the word. You won't forget the "You Dream" sung periodically throughout. I guarantee you'll see the lips sinkers in the club when it comes on.
