Serge Geyzel - Ready?
Making his Mechatronic debut, Serge Geyzel catapults headfirst into his rich, hard-hitting electro style. Geyzel, as an artist, is quite interesting; in some instances, he finds himself taking things a bit slower with break-focused IDM utilising blush pads and piano melodies. In contrast, this time, he takes a no-holds-barred approach to his Ready? (2023) EP is a style we have seen him take on before, especially with his work on Zodiak Commune.
The opener and closer of the EP exemplify this hard-hitting electro energy with hats and claps that ring out with intensity. Distorted noise covers unrelenting kicks and bass, sure to tear dance floors apart. The title track, 'Ready?' uses sirens to raise tension while the animalistic closer, 'Sceptic', ripped apart speaker cones. Geyzel's aggressive style is counteracted with calm vocals on 'Things Happen' as they even take on a mocking tone. Space-age synth sounds drenched in reverb and delays that echo out between punchy drums. 'Sag' emulates the effect but with audio tails becoming far-out atmospheres. Geyzel transitions into an underground sound design-focused electro style on 'It's Gonna Get Stuck in Your Head' as the attitude switches and the growls become darker. 'Energy status' feels like the final descent into the cybernetic hellscape as the space between percussion is accentuated by distant roars.
