Daniel Avery - Wonderland / Running
Daniel Avery is one of London's most prominent and best-loved producers. His popularity and influence have grown from relatively humble beginnings on Phantasy Records to a new higher popularity in the underground techno scene of the UK's capital. His ability to churn out music is seeing him explode with project after project, showcasing a little bit of something for everyone. This latest release on Fabric Originals is unmistakably Avery.
The first track, Wonderland, is reminiscent of his earlier work, taking the vocal harmonies out of 'Water Jump' but deviating slightly, showcasing his colossal new sound. It's a proper stepper while also being more vocal and spacious. Since Avery's slow departure from the cleaner sound of his early work, he has moved into a more visceral and writhing Sonic Palette. Wonderland Makes a point of putting this at the forefront with One of the most gravelly and chaotic rolling baselines. 'Running', on the other hand, is more in line with Avery's DJ sets of late. Avery shows himself as a music student just as much as a producer, 'Running' taking cues from Donato Dozzy, Mike Parker, and Planetary Assault System. Mesmerising lead sounds sweep across heavy pounding kicks, and deep synthesises rattle low ends. It's deep techno. It's a track to get your head down and get lost.
