DD 3 - Fences / ACTX

René Pawlowitz, known as Shed or one of his many other aliases, has become a living legend of German techno, one of the most prolific and quality-driven producers in the country's long music history. The short sweets and concise two-tracker. Fences/ATCX (2023) takes the genre's roots, repetition with tiny changes all the time. Coming to us under the Distance Dancer areas on The Final Experiment, a sub-label of the legendary Nowt Music.

'Fences' builds with such warm intensity it's impossible not to feel yourself floating as the lush chords and arpeggiating bass swell. The perfect blend of saturation reverb and delay means the sound engulfs. It's pure ecstasy. The most impressive part is DD 3 rides that wave. There is no need for full-on tension and release when each element climbs and swoops, creating a liquid approach to dance music. Taking on a scrappier and dubbed-out approach, 'ATCX' is built-for lacquer, like the lucky find at the record store. Following the same approach as 'Fences', utilising slow drifting builds and breezy releases, the track maintains energy throughout without making it feel like we come crashing back to terra-firma. Low-end rumbles, twinkling dub bass, and smooth yet snappy percussion are all you need to emote so strongly.
