Reedale Rise - Sesuvium
After a few outings on one of the most prevalent Electro labels in the game, namely Frustrated Funk, Simon Keat is welcomed into the Delsin family with his latest undertaking, Sesuvium (2023), under his better-known Reedale Rise alias. Low-key kicks and echoing snares are Reedale Rise's weapons of choice. The Liverpudlian artist uses minimal drum beats and delicate synths to create rich, textured atmospheres. 'Littoral Zone' uses drifting pan flutes that beckon us into the land of dreams if not for the funky groove and sub-bass combo sitting just underneath. Soft pianos float while strings glisten and shimmer, encasing the track like a silk pillow. Serving as the more focused counterpart, 'Globular' takes aquatic production tips from Drexciya, blending bubbly synthesisers with mellow bass swells that disperse like ocean waves crashing on the shore. 'Driftwood' perfectly continues the serene stylings, this time showing a mastery of movement. Floating strings bend and flex as the track progresses, perfectly encapsulating motion. Not to mention that old-school Detroit lead is 10/10. The wonky 2-step of 'Artmia' rounds out the EP as layers of gliding harmony lessons of wistfulness to the EP's finale. This final cut acts as a beautifully delicate lemon sorbet, cleansing the palate after a hearty and impassioned roller coaster.
