Ferdinger - Second Nature
The Life In Patterns head honcho returns to the forefront of the label for their 8th release, Second Nature (2023), and it is energetic as all hell! A four-track roller coaster of high-octane party Trax courtesy of Ferdinger in collaboration with Introversion and JakoJako. The techno imprint perfectly conjoins the heavy percussive styles of Germany's club techno with the buoyant trance vibes of the Persian scene. Balancing the hard house claps, dub chords and ultra-uplifting energy. Opening a record is never easy, but the duo of Ferdinger and Introversion make light work of it on 'Air France'. Bouncing bass and bongos set the scene for something wild. The metallic wobble of the synthesised chords is something different, adding movement and light-heartedness. Emotional pads are feathered into the mix, bringing a cool chill like the starting sun depicted in the artwork. 'Bottom lines' is a head-down roller. Polymetric percussion filters in over the gargling bass that sounds like a mix of high-voltage electricity and squelching acid. Vocals and stabbed lead lines elevate the track to a warehouse weapon.
The title track, 'Second Nature', verges on dungeon electronics with wicked swipes that emulate the frenzied flailing of a torch in a dusty cave, cementing that atmosphere. Ferdinger and JakoJako's brutal and assaulting rhythms pummel the body with bass, allowing astral leads with cosmic delays to dance over the track, becoming trancelike. Ferdinger closes out the record by flying headfirst into the house of trance. 'Heart Break' melds repetitive vocals and modulating synths to spin loops into whirlwinds of hypnotic rhythms. There's power and movement infused into this track as it seems as comfortable flying down the highway as it does bringing the masses to the dance floor. This release shows that lightning strikes not once or twice but four times. A quartet of dance floor fillers fit for any club, warehouse, or social gathering.
