Insolate - Push EP
Making her Mote-Evolver debut, Insolate, a bastion of the Croatian techno scene, unveils the Push EP (2023). Known for purebred techno and being Croatia's ambassador overseas (2017), Insolate has been lending that innovative and creative brain to the TRAUM event series while also making time to run the Out Of Place label.
The Push EP begins with 'Outer Bass', with eerie atmospheric whining synths complementing dissonant chugs. The track breaks with the sudden chime of a voice, "bass", so much power is generated from such a simple technique. Insolate strips back elements to slam them back in. These strange vocalisations are also heard on the title track 'Push' as Insolate achieves energy and binaural confusion. Vocal synths babble in such a way it bleeds confidence in the process rather than just a happy mistake. This is an intentional, heavy form of expression. Chattering hats clang while the synths saw into the skull lobotomising thought, only making room for dance.
Insolate goes even more challenging on 'Blow', channelling powerful hypnotism, achieved as resonant 303's dance around unrelenting kicks. Distance strings orbit wicked acid builds like tense pulses of energy injections. Insolate knew what we needed on this last one. The heavy bass, familiar keys and a vocal on 'Desire' scream deep house influence with a twist. It has the same breakneck speed, the same undeniable groove and again, that same pace that brings us up, down and all around.
