Jump Source - JS05

EP

JS05 is the latest release by modern-day hitmakers Jump Source. Jump Source, comprised of Priori and Patrick Holland, have teamed up again for an EP of three distinct thirds. JS05 features contrasting vibes, flavours, and energies for a diverse EP. The duo kicks things off with 'Balance', a colourful 80s-throwback electro-pop record, most close to resembling Mylo's in the 2000s album Destroy Rock & Roll that popularised the sound, most notably with the tracks 'Drop the Pressure' and 'Muscle Car'. Neon stabs bring a glitzy, in-your-face attitude synonymous with big hair and even bigger shoulder pads to the production. 'Tonearm Extended' lowers the energy with a much more minimal-infused construction. Its bass still elicits grooves as the sub bubbles away under the surface like the bayou of the Mississippi. This time, the percussion is much snappier and slightly off-kilter, giving a real Houghton vibe. The EP takes its final turn with the closing track, 'Sad Salad'. This track slows things down, using evolving filters and minor progressions to create a more romantic and sober Sunset track. The arrangement is full of gorgeous glacier pads, strings and thocky percussion, adding warmth to the record.

Jump Source once again out of the park. You may be in amalgamation styles, with each track developed enough to be serviceable in each different set genre. Combine this with the sheer volume of music both Priori and Patrick Holland produce at the minute. I'm surprised they still have new ideas with such a packed schedule.
