The crown prince of Nottingham returns with a blockbuster single that mashes up influences from 808 State to The Prodigy with a sound all his own that lies somewhere between colourful electronica and classic feel-good dance music. Lone’s trajectory has been quite astonishing. After making his first appearance on R&S in 2011, Lone has become somewhat of a regular to the world-renowned Belgian label. His latest single, Waterfall Reverse (2023), drops on London and Berlin-based Greco-Roman, of which Lone has been a long-term contributor. His ability to draw out nostalgic ecstasy with every track is on full display through boisterous breaks that rattle the midrange, tamed by stuttering synths and cut-up soul samples, leaving just enough room for a rude boy roller to flood the low end. A clear 90’s and 00s throwback bringing nostalgic piano stabs and futuristic acid licks together for a retrospective journey through a hardcore dance style fit for warehouse use.
