Parris & Untold - Lip Locked
The slick underground sounds of Parris, one of the enigmatic minds behind Can You Feel the Sun and untold the co-owner of Hemlock Recordings, team up on the new and undeniable Lip Locked (2023). Both men are credibly established artists, evidenced by their genre-defining outputs, uncompromising sounds, and presence in the UK underground scene. The duo brings us a new two-tracker Lip Locked (2023) courtesy of ORO, an offshoot of untold hemlock recordings. Slick minimalistic and bouncy grooves bring life to both tracks, and brilliant use of vocal chops inserts an uncanny flavour of augmented reality.
The UK funk-inspired title track, ‘Lip Locked’, explores the boundaries of vocal glitching. They deliver both rhythm and tone of speech masterfully. The duo channels the cadence of MCs while also bringing Latin flavour to such a short vocal snippet, matching the percussive energy perfectly. As for the solo venture by Untold, ‘Just Look at the Rain’ is a full-frontal assault of hyperactive kicks, dusty breaks, and a bone-rattling bass. This is a heavy-duty track, able to tear up any set with ease. Using agile breakbeats and crunchy low ends brings a real rave aspect to the release.
