Shcuro and Vil - Repercussions Part 1

EP

DJs! Reclaim the underground with juicy dub joints. The 13th release on Shcuro's stunning Paraíso imprint sees the label head team up with Vil, an artist with a bag of releases and just as many aliases. The two Portuguese powerhouses find that perfect balance between rich, bassy rumbles and dubbed-out house stabs on Repercussions Part 1 (2024). Peppy syncopated filter manipulation gives the record optimism, an ideal counterpoint to rolling subtones on 'Rumble the Funk'. The energetic splash of hi-hats and pop of clicking snares will heat up even the biggest clubs. The dazzling pads become a recurring theme in 'Rumble the Funk' and 'Chime Dub'. The tracks differ because the latter has a much more sinister feel. Delving further into the dub influences, 'Chime Dub' throws echoes around with attitude. Fantastic hand percussion mixes with the 140-esque snare and subtle Reese bass, making for a sound reminiscent of the deep atmospheric dubstep heyday. That said, it feels like 'Recoil' takes that atmospheric crown. Delays from deep in the heart of Jamaica bring the funk and echoing artists like Basic Channel with a potent dance appeal. The final track is a remix of 'Rumble the Funk' by Blasha & Allatt. The duo of Natasha Carter and Steffi Allatt represent the UK's growing funky tech contingent, stripping back the base, pumping up the groove and incorporating more speed into the original. If this is only part 1, I can't wait to see what comes next.
