Stanislav Tolkachev, Plastique01 - Seasoned Greetings
Stanislav Tolkachev is a peculiar name within dance music, as although he takes inspiration from the machine funk of Detroit, he does so uncompromisingly. Left-field audio assaults mashed together with atonal riffs of analogue anarchy and the unhuman barrage of industrial percussion and bass frequency. Stanislav's latest offering on DE RIO sees the Ukrainian joined by Plastique01, a similarly talented artist well-versed in analogue gear who shares the same uncompromising dedication to machine music. Giulio Da Rin (Plastique01) shows a nuanced understanding of his Detroit predecessors through his back catalogue. Emotive strings and dub echoes are counterpoints against the heavy industrialised drums.
Tolkachev's contribution to the duo's joint Seasoned Greetings (2024) release is two tracks that exhibit chaotic acid squelches and discernible inhuman aesthetics that live on the boundary between the experimental and the danceable. 'Breathworks' keeps things compact with syncopated grooves that repeat, emulating the monotony of a printing press. His glitched rifts flow unimpeded across the surface. 'Someone Stronger Than You' is a much more claustrophobic cut. Tolkachev uses angular synths and sharp metallic percussion, creating an oppressively robotic track eroded in thick distortion. Plastique01's 'Minuteman 2' blends contemporary techno with a sense of space you won't find anywhere else. Closing the record, 'It Was Already There' shifts away from the mechanical roots of both artists and implementing organic and creepy squelches. It sounds like the echoing droplets of stalactites intertwined in the record, bringing unsettling pads that groan under the constant ricochet of percussion. This is warehouse music for the adventurous.
