Temudo - Moraliste
For the uninitiated, Temudo is a DJ producer and mastering engineer. He has thrown his hat into the ring with some of the biggest in the game with releases on Modularz, Klockworks and Soma, to name a few in his storied career. Beginning in drum and bass has given Temudo an excellent ear for low-end excitement and crisp sound design. His involvement in the techno zeitgeist has bolstered carefree creativity and a 6th sense for groove, so it should be no surprise that his latest release on Blueprint Records, Moraliste (2023), is something special.
Each track forms its own identity within a very narrow set of parameters. Temudo has chosen to accentuate different musical ideas differently throughout the production of Moraliste to explore his limited sound palette. Beginning with an exhilarating start leaves little to be desired from 'You Spelled Corn Wrong'. Deep, brassy chimes complimented the clear vision outlined through energetic bass on the first track of Moraliste. Temudo's first outing on Blueprint combines a robust and focused sound comprising heavy repetition and airy choruses that eliminate the dark corners of the cavernous, big room sound. 'The Neuro Funk' creates powerful rhythmic relationships between woody percussion and the metallic snap of the hats, sitting on top of a convulsing bassline. While this cut is minimal, Temudo injects life and atmosphere through minuscule percussive hits that bounce wildly through a cavernous reverb. 'Lea & Blanche' brings dubbed stabs slice through the track like a knife through butter, like a whip crack. This cut builds into its climax as the unruly synths glide into a hectic barrage of sound. Bouncing chords accelerate like a flock of birds swarming. There is also a considerable bounce to go with that bite. Temudo balances these two competing forces on a knife edge. There is an almost surgical precision within his productions.
Finally, what can only be an indirect tribute to one of the scene's most recognised purveyors of quality? 'P is for Paula' takes a more space-aged approach than the rugged industrial, sound-as-a-weapon style polar temple usually implements. Distant bleeps provide focus as periphery elements bend and mutate like waves of cosmic energy. This cut invites you to fall into a trance.
