Creep Woland – HEADSET004
Scotland's HEADSET records have been pumping out bangers like no one's business. Every release has been fit for club use, with the sound ranging from breakbeat, garage and, in the most recent release from Creep Woland, Electro. Speaking of Mr Woland, his most recent outing on HEADSET is very energetic, yet sticking to his namesake (Creep), voyeuristic Electro. It gives a feeling of this being stalked, like the artwork's deer. The tracks have dissonant vibes, exciting and clubby while having an X-Files mystery like Creep Woland creeping up from somewhere in the shadows. The tracks range from trippy sci-fi in the case of 'Inconvenience Sleuth'. 'Repeater' picks up the tempo, becoming more reminiscent of liquid drum and bass than Electro. Creep Woland applies some cinematic magic to 'Missing Sleuth' with its shifting arpeggiators and distant organs, allowing the final track, 'Truth and Reconciliation', to work in this down-tempo journey through shimmering reverbs and a head-down groove that firmly cements it as one of the standouts. Creep Woland and HEADSET will both be ones to keep your ear on in 2024.
