Vegyn - The Path Less Travelled

It will be an exciting year for Vegyn as the London-based producer has already announced his upcoming album, The Road To Heaven Is Paved With Good Intentions, due April 5th. Vegyn has also graced us with a new single in preparation, The Path Less Travelled (2024). Already making waves on social media with a beautifully shot video cacked in sepia and artefacts, the downtempo breakbeats and nostalgic pianos that ring out of wobbling delays add to this analogue sensation. It's beautiful rose-tinted music that screams a simpler time, an ode to the 90s. Shades of Bent and Boards of Canada ooze from Vegyn's melancholic electronica. Wistfulness reigns supreme in a way that feels like looking back at youth. The eagle-eyed among you may have noticed two other tracks off the album that also appeared in late 2023: 'Halo Flip' and 'Makeshift Tourniquet'. All three have this overwhelming sense of anemoia or a yearning for a past you never experienced. The juicy string section brings more cinematic quality to the cut. It's a symphony, and the vocals provided by Lauren Auder sound so reassuring and promising everything will be okay. The final track, 'Makeshift Tourniquet', stands out in reimagining the classic French filter house, leaning more heavily on illuminating chords packed full of sustain and modulation. The drums are crisp, purposeful, and funky, with the swagger of a theatrical greaser clicking his way down an alley. Vegyn continues to find a niche within this bittersweet nostalgia and glossy experimentalism, ingraining emotion into every beat. Bring on April 5th.
