Lust For Youth & Croatian Amor - Dummy Feat. Purient
The Danish Swedish electronic duo Lust For Youth has been slowly refining that sound since the early twenty 10s. Initially, it started as an edgy analogue ambient project that has gradually morphed into a more emotive and polished synth-filled sound. With the help of Croatian Amor, their latest album, All Words, is set to hit shelves on March 7th.
The first single of the album, titled 'Dummy', is a blend of spoken word rap with UK garage elements that are very in line with artists such as The Streets. Manages to appeal to the pop sensibilities of the modern dance music masses through bright vocals and catchy courses provided by Purient. The lyrical content keeps an inner-city edge. It is coupled with flashes of atmosphere to help balance the track while adding depth. While the energy remains high, the track has a fairly middle-of-the-road feel, mainly down to a reliance on a pop aesthetic that distracts from the lyrical content on occasion. That said, Lust For Youth and Croatian Amor nail down a murky shoegaze sound of Future Garage, filling 'Dummy' with ample emotion and authenticity, which feels like the logical next step for the UKG pop anthem. Although many outlets describe their sound as cold and minimalistic, I do predict this will be blasting from call windows come mid-summer.
All Words is released March 7th 2025.
