Tin Man - Hidden Acid

EP

The emotional acid of Tin Man returns to the other test label after a 5-year excursion. The 303 has become firmly entrenched in Tin Man's heart, body, and soul, and after releasing the 2023 album Arles on Bureau B, the old Roland machine is clearly ticking over nicely. With a career stretching back decades, Tin Man continually solidifies his signature style of emotionally enthralling acidic house and techno music. The beauty of Tin Man's music is how the melodies and bass merge and meld together, crafting beautiful synaesthesia while resonances dance to the beat of 909. This latest outing on Acid Test, Hidden Acid (2023), unveils the much more house sound in Tin Man's repertoire.

The title track, ‘Hidden Acid’, recaptures that classic Tin Man style of beautifully thick 303 magic. Of course, silky reverb and delay are applied to all the killer melodies, allowing them to bleed out and make atmospheric beds they lay on. The percussive-led ‘Swaying Acid’ combines toms, bongos, and congas to synthesise this uplifting house energy. Combine that with the elevating chord stabs, and you have an old-school happy house bop. Going down a trancey route on ‘Running Acid’, Tin Man explores some more astral sounds through shimmering delays that float like specular dust over the rolling melodic line. Rounding out the EP is 'Wrapped Up Acid', a much dustier cut that brings out feelings of joyful nostalgia. The track becomes a sponge saturated with tape noise and warmth that, along with the engorging background atmospheres, make it an absolute tear on the ears. This is one of the godfathers of modern dance music, a consummate professional with such a wicked ear for a groove. It's a must for any acid lovers.
